End of November, beginning of December
The day we did the Excel sheet was the last day we met up as a group but that didn't mean we didn't have quizzes or homework to do. Our final exam is next week December the 15th.
Looking back at the class and the semester I've quite a lot to analyse.
Am I nervous about the final? Yes. Did I learn anything? Yes. Would I do it again? Definitely. Would I change anything I did? Absolutely. Did I meet new people? Yes, and amazing ones at that. Would I take class with this professor again? Without a doubt.
I may not have been the most disciplined student in the group but I did learn and I do take what I learned to heart. It's been a tough semester for a lot of us and I've gone through a lot of changes during this short period of time. I hope to be able to apply these experiences to my professional life as well as my personal life. And just like that I say good-bye! It was fun!
So long!!! See you guys soon!

Reflection XIV
Second week of November
EXCEL!!! EXCEL!!! EX@#$%CEL!!! lol I was glad we finally got to work with Excel. I've avoided it in the past but I think we did pretty well. We... ahem... excelled. 😉
The tricky part was... umm... everything! ha! No, it was the equations but I managed. This specific task we I will DEFINITELY be using as a teacher. I can't see why I shouldn't, it's so useful.

Reflection XIII
First week of November
We used Google Sites and Google Forms. Sites we used to create our professional portfolio for near future use. We opened a page to create it's format and to, obviously, learn about how to create this type of webpage. It's actually a great tool. I look forward to developing it for a carreer in education as well as any other professional phase or level.
As for Google Forms, I think this was one of my favorite tasks. In class we created a "test" an example test to use in our future classroom. The more types of questions we used the better and we used all the options available to us. I loved it. I'd definitely see myself using this in the near future.

Reflection XII
Last week of October
This assignment was called 24x2. We only met on Tuesday that week and "met" again on Thursday and Friday of that week via Facebook and Twitter. Maybe that sounds cool to some but i was really worried. I wasn't sure a class could even be given through these medias but then I thought about it. We CAN use it for class and it's a great communication tool in or out of the classroom. So I quickly set that thought aside, however: what is a Twitter?! How does it work?! Yeeeaaahhh... I felt old, but I managed and pulled through.

Last week of October
The semester is finally taking a toll on us and I'm feeling the pressure of midterms and the proximity of finals coming on. Also, Christmas season. If you work in retail, you know what I mean...
In class, we opened an account in piktochart to create our own infographs. This was actually really fun! I love look up infographs for different topics so finding a place to create my own was awesome.
Here's the infograph on the topic I chose which was "Gamification." Mind you, this is fun and all, but you gotta know your sh**. Don't make an infograph and put down just any ol' info you please. What ever topic you choose, be concise fun and informative. This is a great tool for anyone who wants to learn about a topic quickly. "Short and sweet" a another professor of mine would say or another professor, another saying: KISS: "Keep it Simple Sweetheart."
So for those of you about to Piktochart: have fun!

Third week of October
By this time you'd think we'd be experts using programs such as PowerPoint and word, but this professor never ceases to amaze us with how much we didn't know! We created a PowerPoint Template. What I learned was there's an option which creates something called a "Master Slide." Call me whatever you like but I didn't know that existed and besides, it's never too late to learn ANYTHING.
Here's an example of what we did:

Third week of October
The students in the class were assigned to log onto a video chat using AnyMeeting and any other video chat program of our liking. We needed to post a screenshot of our video chats and post in our class blog. AnyMeeting was mandatory by the professor and I'm still trying to figure out why. I have bad internet connection but Skype was ok, AnyMeeting was lagging. I also had to unsubscribe from their newsletter because... wow... can those guys fill your inbox...
Here's my friend Ozzie and I using Skype. I'm on TV!!!
And here we are again this time using AnyMeeting. He turned into a dinosaur...

Second week of October
So... this week we were assigned to create a Slideshow using Google Docs where we all had to participate. So picture this: we are about 20 students, yes TWENTY individual students to create this slideshow. We each have our own style and we each have our own pace so of course I thought "this is gonna be interesting." What made it tricky was having to choose a topic of interest to be discussed in our individual slides before someone else took it. But it was done. The title of the slideshow was: "How to do a Slideshow using Effective Techniques." Though it was a useful way to show cooperative learning the task was not as easy as I thought.

First week of October
We used GIMP again this time to apply it to a new way of using Word. Yes. Word. Again. But it's cool, because, honestly I didn't know I could do these things on such a "basic" program. We created what was called an Informative Bulletin. Basically a flyer. Based on my previous post, you can now see why it would've been useful information in the past. (I could've done more graphic art styled flyers).
The last week of September we learned about the history and evolution of computers. This professor's students can tell he's super stoked about all this technology. So much so, we even made a joke about it. Sorry but, I'll keep the details between my classmates and I.

Reflection VI
Last week of September
We worked with Gimp, which I loved. I have worked with GIMP previously to create flyers from photos I have taken. It's tedious for those who are unfamiliar with the program but, as with all things, practice makes excellence. Yes, I changed the saying! One feature that we used in GIMP which I'm not accustomed to use, at least not in GIMP, was the coloration and saturation to change a selection's color. This made it much easier to make this change than it would have to color in the area. The only thing I would've done differently would be the selection tool we used in class. We used the "lasso" aka "Free Select" to then change this area's color, however, the tool I think would have been best for this task would be the "Intelligent Scissors." This tool allows you to select an area using the threshold lines between one part of the image to the next automatically adjusting to the lines. For an image like this one where the lines were very ridged, it would have been ideal and the students would have saved a lot more time. Here's the image we edited (chosen by the professor) before and after using GIMP.

Third week of September
We continue to do formatting using Word. You'd think you know it all on word being that it's so "simple," but little do I know...
This time, we used Word to create a table. It wasn't creating the table that was new for me, it was eliminating borders and filling in color making it look almost like a graph. There was also making lines for written entries such as name, date, etc.
I really found this useful for future references especially for a class. As a matter of fact I need this for a rubric I have to create.

Second week of September
This was the week the professor was out for a conference. However, there was no exceptions: we did have assignments due and they had to be done. The assignment we had was to work with a word document: create a cover page, include a table of contents with links and fix the headers for the different sections throughout the example paper provided by the professor. I honestly have never done such a task since i usually use MLA format and this document which used APA had details I hadn't used ever or in a very long time. Hence, I did learn regardless of the difficulty level.
Here's the sample document:

Reflection III
...well...
The semester was chuck full of work and information--not that I'm discrediting any other semester, I just probably didn't see the snowball effect that my circumstances were creating. So, in all honesty, here I am, at the final hours doing EXACTLY what we were told not to.
The order which I will be posting will be from the oldest to the most recent topics.
First week of September
We were taught the difference between a URL code and an Embed code and how to use these. I really had no idea that there was any difference therefore never put mind into when or where to choose one over the other.
The post on this blog created on September 1st was an example of how to apply an embed code. The gif on this post is also a good example. It also serves as a visual representation of me trying to save... well you get the idea.

Jumping over a snowball from gifsWith that being said (I confess to my sins), the following entries will briefly discuss what we did in class. I will provide approximate dates so, please bare with me, and I apologize in advance.

Nathaniel Hawthorne Biography
Author (1804–1864)
Born in Salem, Massachusetts in 1804, Nathaniel Hawthorne's short stories include "My Kinsman, Major Molineux" (1832), "Roger Malvin's Burial" (1832), "Young Goodman Brown" (1835), and the collection Twice-Told Tales. He is best known for his novels The Scarlet Letter (1850) and The House of the Seven Gables (1851). His use of allegory and symbolism make Hawthorne one of the most studied writers.
After having learned a some background on Hawthorne please read the following:

Once having read the story, and learned about American Romanticism and Nathaniel Hawthorne answer the following quiz:
Early Life
Nathaniel was the only son of Nathaniel and Elizabeth Clark Hathorne (Manning). His father, a sea captain, died in 1808 of yellow fever while at sea. The family was left with meager financial support and moved in with Elizabeth’s wealthy brothers. A leg injury at an early age left Nathaniel immobile for a several months during which time he developed a voracious appetite for reading and set his sights on becoming a writer.
With the aid of his wealthy uncles, young Hawthorne attended Bowdoin College from 1821 to 1825. There he met and befriended Henry Wadsworth Longfellow and future president Franklin Pierce. By his own admission, he was a negligent student with little appetite for study.
Early Works
While attending college, Nathaniel Hawthorne missed his mother and two sisters terribly and upon graduation, returned home for a 12-year stay. During this time, he began to write with purpose and soon found his “voice” self-publishing several stories, among them The Hollow of the Three Hills and An Old Woman’s Tale. By 1832, he had written My Kinsman, Major Molineux andRoger Malvin’s Burial, two of his greatest tales and in 1837, Twice Told Tales. Though his writing brought him some notoriety, it didn’t provide a dependable income and for a time he worked for the Boston Custom House weighing and gaging salt and coal.

Now… this reflection
is for the second week of the class EDPE 3129. We’ve each created a blog page
just like this one. In class we discussed blogs (obviously), social media, and
some tips as to their uses. One thing that really stuck with me was that I learned never
to post one of my pictures without my watermark if I don’t want to lose what is
my original work.

'Sup World!!
Hey guys!!
So, this is my first blog EVER and it's for a class I'm taking in UPR-Mayaguez, Puerto Rico. The class? Uso de la Microcomputadora en la Clase. Yes, it's a mouth full, however it's a fast-paced class that is extremely informative and full of awesome activities. More than just a class, it feels like internet exploring.
Now that you know I'm a student maybe I should tell you what I'm studying. I am currently an English Mayor in the Education Program yet I have a previous Bachelor's in Music Education.
Like I said this is only my first blog of many, and this one is done.
